What’s your go-to for a Friday afternoon drink and nibble in Brisbane City?
When it comes to enjoying a Friday afternoon drink and nibble in Brisbane City, two places immediately come to mind. The first is Banc Brasserie, a go-to spot for a perfect start to the weekend. Their cosy atmosphere, combined with their carefully crafted drinks and delectable bites, create a delightful experience. Another favourite of mine is Alba Bar & Deli, known for its delicious snacks and vibrant laneway vibe. Both places offer a fantastic ambiance and are perfect for winding down after a long week.
Why did you want to be ambassador for Dine BNE City?
Being asked to be the ambassador for Dine BNE City was a true honour. The passion I have for the Brisbane dining scene made it a natural fit for me to take on this role. Brisbane is a city that is constantly evolving, and I wanted to be a part of showcasing everything it has to offer. The culinary scene here is flourishing, and I'm thrilled to have the opportunity to contribute to its growth and success.
What makes the Brisbane dining scene so distinctive/what separates it from Sydney/Melbourne?
What truly makes the Brisbane dining scene distinctive is the combination of factors that set it apart from other major cities like Sydney and Melbourne. Of course, our glorious weather plays a significant role, with abundant sunshine and refreshing drinks always available. However, beyond that, there is a relaxed and welcoming atmosphere in Brisbane that makes dining here truly special. There's no room for ego or pretentiousness when it comes to our food. Instead, we focus on exceptional produce and let it shine in its simplicity. Brisbane has access to some of the best local produce in the country, which gives our chefs a massive advantage in creating exceptional dining experiences.
What do you see in the future for the Brisbane City dining scene?
The future of the Brisbane City dining scene is incredibly promising. The rest of Australia is finally recognizing what we've known all along—that Brisbane is a culinary force to be reckoned with. In the next 5-10 years, I envision a flourishing scene with even more diverse offerings. I anticipate an increase in outdoor bars and pubs, fine dining establishments, and charming riverside eateries. Brisbane will continue to innovate and surprise us, so it's a space to keep an eye on.
Where is somewhere in Brisbane City you would recommend to a tourist and a local?
Brisbane City has so much to offer both tourists and locals. While there are countless options to explore, I have a few personal recommendations that are must-visit establishments. For those looking to indulge in a steakhouse experience, Walters Steakhouse is a prime choice. Rothwells, Settimo by Guy Grossi, and Tillerman Seafood Restaurant are also fantastic options for those seeking exquisite cuisine. Additionally, I highly recommend Banc Brasserie, Alba Bar and Deli, and The Gresham for their unique offerings and welcoming atmospheres. These places capture the essence of Brisbane's culinary scene and are sure to leave a lasting impression on any visitor or resident.
